Hans-Peter Scheidegger was born in Switzerland. He studied German Literature and Music History in Bern, and completed consecutively his vocal studies with Jakob Stämpfli. He was awarded the Solo prize from the Schweizerische Tonkünstlerveein and was a prizewinner at the Belvedere Singing Competition in Vienna.

Hans-Peter made his debut in Luzern where he was engaged in the ensemble. Further engagements took him to the Staatstheater Karslruhe, Theater Basel and to the Niedersächische Staatsoper in Hannover. Numerous engagements as a Guest have taken him as far afield as Hamburg, Wiesbaden, Düsseldorf, Stuttgart, Paris, Lisbon, Madrid, Toulouse, Rio de Janiero, Spoleto, La Fenice in Venice and La Scala, Milan. Hans-Peter has had the opportunity to work with many respected producers including, Herbert Wernicke, Peter Konwitschny and Calixto Bieito and renowned conductors such as Horst Stein, Jeffrey Tate, Lothar Zagrosek, Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos, Marc Albrecht and Seiji Ozawa. Hans-Peter Scheidegger is, in addition to his opera work a multi faceted concert singer, with a wide repertoire ranging from Beethovens ninth, through Berlioz’s L’enfance du Christ to Schoenberg’s GurreLieder.

With his full and imposing voice Hans-Peter Scheidegger has the ability to sing in both the Italian as well as the German Fach and has had great success in roles such as Wotan in the Ring, Hans Sachs in Meistersinger and Gurnemanz in Parsifal, as well as Philipp in Don Carlo, Fiesco in Simon Boccanegra and including Sarastro in Zauberflöte and Baron Ochs in Rosenkavalier.

Hans-Peter sang the Commendatore in Hamburg, Hannover, and at the English National Opera in London recently. In Hannover he was also heard as Ferrando in Bieitos’s production of Il Trovatore, Ochs in Rosenkavalier, Zaccaria in Nabucco and Sarastro in Zauberflöte. He also sang Wotan in Wroclaw, joined teh Ring in Chemnitz, Boris Godounow in Toulouse and Billy Budd in Genua. Future Plans include Der Rosenkavalier an der Opera de la Bastille in Paris, Rigoletto at the English National Opera, Der fliegende Holländer and Wozzeck in Hannover, the Ring in Chemnitz, as well as Die Zauberflöte in Turin.

In 2006 he joned the Ensemble of the Komische Oper Berlin. His roles include Commendatore in »Don Giovanni«, Bartolo in »Die Hochzeit des Figaro« und Crespel/Luther in »Hoffmanns Erzählungen«. In 2007/2008 Basilio in »Der Barbier von Sevilla«, the cook "Liebe zu den 3 Orangen" and the King the new production of » Die Verurteilung des Lukullus« will follow.
